Skeleton sprites made for isometric games

Skeletons are the enemy almost every fantasy game needs: the first foes of a dungeon, the minions of a necromancer, the boss at the end of a crypt. We wanted a set that could cover all of that in one style, so we made the Fantasy Medieval Series, a family of animated pixel art skeletons for isometric games.

The series has 9 skeletons in 3 packs, plus 2 projectiles: an arrow and an energy orb. Every character shares the same isometric angle, palette and scale, so a skeleton from one pack stands next to one from another without looking out of place. Every pack also has one skeleton you can download for free and test in your engine.

Pack 1: Bone Crew

The basic undead cast: a foot soldier, a small comic enemy and a heavy tank. All three are on 96 px cells, with 21 animations in the pack and 1,352 frames per colour variant. Free sample: the Skeleton Warrior in the classic variant, with every animation in 8 directions.

  • Skeleton Warrior: the classic undead foot soldier, with a bone club, glowing eye sockets and a ragged scarf.
  • Baby Skeleton: a huge skull, a nappy and a bib; it attacks with head-butts.
  • Skeleton Brute: a massive armoured skeleton with a horned helmet and a big round shield it charges with.

Pack 2: Dark Hunt

Three undead hunters on 96 px cells, 1,440 frames per colour variant. The archer's arrow is a separate sprite with its own flight and impact animations, and the JSON tells you on which frame to fire it and where it leaves the bow in each direction. Free sample: the Skeleton Hound in the classic variant, with every animation in 8 directions.

  • Skeleton Summoner: bone crown, robe and a staff with a glowing orb that lights up while summoning.
  • Skeleton Archer: a bone-and-wood bow and a quiver on the back; it nocks, draws and shoots.
  • Skeleton Hound: a big fanged skull, open ribs, a spiked spine and a studded collar; it lunges and bites.

Pack 3: Undead Lords

Three skeleton bosses on bigger canvases (176 px for the king and the warlock, 208 px for the mounted knight), at the same scale as the rest of the series. 1,472 frames per colour variant, including the warlock's energy orb, which works like the archer's arrow: its own sprite, with flight and impact animations. Free sample: the Skeleton King in the classic variant, with every animation in 8 directions.

  • Skeleton King: gold crown, royal cape and a greatsword; his two-handed slash ends in a shockwave.
  • Skeleton Knight: helmet, shield and a long lance, riding a skeletal horse with a spectral flame mane; it rears up, then charges.
  • Skeleton Warlock: horned hood, a tattered robe with no legs and a glowing energy core in the chest; he gathers an orb between his hands and hurls it.

7 animations, 8 directions, 4 colour variants

Every skeleton has the same 7 animations: idle, walk, run, attack, hurt, death and spawn, each one in all 8 directions (south, south-east, east, north-east, north, north-west, west and south-west). The two projectiles have a flight and an impact animation. The Bone Crew skeletons collapse into a pile of bones when they die and rise again in the spawn animation.

Each character also comes in 4 colour variants: classic, inferno, cursed and frost. They recolour bones, cloth and glowing eyes, so one skeleton can be a normal enemy in one level and an elite in another. The projectiles change with them: inferno arrows burn with a trail of embers, cursed ones drip poison and burst into a toxic cloud, frost ones shatter into ice shards. Across the three packs that is 4,264 frames for each colour variant.

What is in every download

Each skeleton comes as PNG sprite sheets with and without shadow, a separate shadow layer, every frame as a single PNG, a JSON file with pivot, frame rate and file list (plus the spawn data for the projectiles), Godot 4 SpriteFrames and animated GIF previews. The sheets work in Godot, Unity, GameMaker and any engine that reads sprite sheets.

  • No resale, no NFTs and no machine-learning training
